New Grants or Gifts Relating to Women in Higher Education

Here is this week’s news of grants and gifts that may be of particular interest to women in higher education.

Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, and California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo are sharing a grant for a study on how educational institutions can more effectively support underrepresented minority women in STEM fields.

The co-principal investigators on the grant project are Mary Armstrong, associate professor of English and chair of the women’s and gender studies program at Lafayette College and Jasna Jovanovic, professor of psychology and child development at CalPoly.

Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, received a $300,000 grant from the Office on Violence Against Women of the U.S. Department of Justice to support educational programs and response mechanisms dealing with dating violence and sexual assault. Some of the money will be used to hire a prevention coordinator to oversee educational efforts.

The grant program will be under the director of Tracy Russell Shaynak, director of the Women’s Resource Center at Bucknell and Marie Shaw, a university psychologist.
