Hyun-Kyung You, assistant professor of human environmental studies at Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, received the Jessie Bernard Contribution to Feminist Scholarship Paper Award from the National Council on Family Relations. The winning paper examined South Korean mothers’ relationships with their children who have autism spectrum disorders.
Dr. You holds bachelor’s, master’s and Ph.D. degrees in human development and family studies from Oregon State University.
Sarita Soni, professor of optometry and vice provost for research at Indiana University in Bloomington, received the William Feinbloom Award from the American Academy of Optometry. She joined the School of Optometry at Indiana University in 1978.
Dr. Soni received an ophthalmic optics degree from the Institute of Science and Technology of the University of Manchester in England. She earned a master’s degree in pathology and a doctor of optometry degree from Indiana University.
Beverly Ann Chin, director of the English Teaching Program at the University of Montana, was selected to receive the 2012 Distinguished Service Award from the National Council of Teachers of English.
Dr. Chin holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Florida State University. She earned a doctorate in curriculum and instruction from Oregon State University.
MurphyKate Montee, a senior at the University of Notre Dame doubling majoring in mathematics and music, was selected to receive the 2013 Alice T. Schafer Mathematics Prize from the Association for Women in Mathematics. The award is given to one undergraduate woman in the United States each year.
The prize will be awarded in San Diego in January.
Anna Mikusheva, the Castle Krob Career Development Assistant Professor of Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, received the 2012 Elaine Bennett Research Prize from the Committee on the Status of Women in the Economics Profession of the American Economics Association.
Dr. Mikusheva has been on the faculty at MIT since 2007. She holds a Ph.D. in mathematics from Moscow State University and a Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University.
Lisa Flowers, associate professor of gynecologic oncology at the Emory University School of Medicine, received the Latino Health Excellence award from the Hispanic Health Coalition of Georgia.
Dr. Flowers earned her medical degree at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.
