A Living Legend in Nursing Education

Mi Ja Kim, professor of nursing at the University of Illinois at Chicago was named a Living Legend for 2012 by the American Academy of Nursing. Professor Kim is also dean emerita of the nursing school and is the executive director of the Global Health Leadership Office at the university. She is the 86th Living Legend honored by the association since 1994.
Dr. Kim joined the faculty at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1975 after completing her doctorate of nursing at the university. She has been on campus ever since except for one year when she served as a Senior Fulbright Scholar and visiting professor at her alma mater, Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea. She served as dean of the School of Nursing from 1989 to 2005 and again from 2009 to 2010.
Dr. Kim’s research focuses on health disparities in Korean Americans and pulmonary physiology and nursing.
