Elizabeth Oliver, the Lewis Whitaker Adams Professor in Commerce at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, has received the Jim Benjamin Lifetime Service Award from the American Accounting Association. The prize recognizes lifetime achievement in accounting education and outstanding leadership within the accounting profession.
A W&L faculty member since 1991, Dr. Oliver teaches courses on financial accounting, accounting research, and corporate social responsibility. She has held several roles throughout her long tenure, including associate dean of the Williams School, head of the accounting department, and coordinator of the university’s London internship program. She also had a stint as interim provost during the 2020-2021 academic year.
Throughout her career, Dr. Oliver has been an active member of the American Accounting Association. She has served on numerous committees and held positions with several subsections. She previously served as president of the association’s Accounting Program Leadership Group.
Dr. Oliver received a bachelor’s degree from Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Virginia, a master’s degree in English from the University of Kansas, a second master’s degree in accounting from the University of Virginia, and a Ph.D. from Texas A&M University.
