Survey Finds Low Levels of Women Faculty at Yale

A new report from the Women Faculty Forum at Yale University finds the women are significantly underrepresented on the university’s faculty. The data shows that women make up about half of all students at the university. But women are only 34 percent of ladder faculty and 24 percent of all tenured faculty.

When the numbers are broken down by academic disciplines the report found that women are 30 percent of the tenured faculty in the humanities but only 11 percent in the physical sciences. The report also found that women made up very small percentages of the faculty at the School of Management, Yale Law School, and the Yale School of Medicine.

Despite the low numbers, there has been improvement. A decade ago, women were only 17 percent all tenured faculty.
