National Press Photographers Association Presents Its Highest Honor to Julie Jones

Julie Jones, lecturer in the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Oklahoma, has received the 2024 Founder Award from the National Press Photographers Association. The award is the association’s highest honor, presented annually in recognition of lifetime achievements in photojournalism.

Dr. Jones has over four decades of experience in photojournalism and higher education. She has been a member of the University of Oklahoma faculty since 2008. She is the co-founder of OUStormCrowd, a multidisciplinary program for journalism and meteorology students to gain experience in weather reporting. As a scholar, Dr. Jones focuses her research on the participatory nature of online news and visual platforms.

Dr. Jones holds a master’s degree from Arizona State University and a Ph.D. in mass communication from the University of Minnesota.
