Six Women Named to Faculty Posts

Susan Hockfield, who stepped down as president of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology earlier this year, was appointed the Marie Curie Visiting Professor at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Before becoming president of MIT in 2004, Dr. Hockfield was the William Edward Gilbert Professor of Neurobiology and provost at Yale University. Her research is focused on brain cancer.

Dr. Hockfield is a graduate of the University of Rochester and holds a Ph.D. from the Georgetown University School of Medicine.

Vicki Michaelis was named the John Huland Carmical Distinguished Professor of Sports Journalism in the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia. She has been a sportswriter for USA Today and has directed the newspaper’s Olympic coverage.

Professor Michaelis holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University. She is the past president of the Association for Women in Sports Media.

Anne R. Kenney was reappointed for another five-year term as the Carl A. Kroch University Librarian at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. The libraries at Cornell have nearly 8 million volumes, have a budget of $53 million, and a staff of nearly 400.

Kenney is a graduate of Duke University. She holds a master’s degree in history from the University of Missouri at St. Louis and a master of library sciences degree from the University of Missouri at Columbia.

Robin Dease was named chair of the department of philosophy and religion at Claflin University in Orangeburg, South Carolina. She has been serving as the senior pastor of the John Wesley University Methodist Church in Greenville, South Carolina.

Dr. Dease is a graduate of Claflin University and holds a master’s degree in divinity and a doctorate in ministry from the Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C.

Anastasia Boles has joined the faculty at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. She was a faculty fellow at the Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego, California.

Professor Boles is a graduate of Stanford University, where she doubled majored in political science and sociology. She earned her law degree at Columbia University.

Cecilia King was appointed an assistant professor of clarinet in the department of music at North Dakota State University. She was an instructor at Concordia University in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Dr. King holds a master’s degree from the University of Southern California and a doctor of musical arts degree from the University of Michigan.
