Four Women Appointed to the Syracuse University School of Education Faculty

Sabrina M. Butler has joined the faculty at Syracuse University as an assistant teaching professor of counseling and counselor education. Prior to her new role, she was a mental health counseling instructor at the University of Central Florida. She is a member of the American Counseling Association, Association for Specialists in Group Work, Counselors for Social Justice, and EMDR International Association.

Dr. Butler received her bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in mental health counseling from Syracuse University. She holds a Ph.D. in counselor education and supervision from the University of Central Florida.

Heather Lavender has joined the faculty at Syracuse University as an assistant professor of inclusive STEM education. Most recently, she served as a postdoctoral fellow with the Frances Early College of Education at the University of Georgia. Her research focuses on advancing awareness and participation in science education among underserved youth.

Dr. Lavender is a three-time graduate of Louisiana State University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in microbiology, a master’s degree in microbiology, and a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction in science education.

Ahram Lee has joined the full-time faculty at Syracuse University as an assistant professor of counseling and counselor education. For the past two years, she has served as a visiting assistant teaching professor at Syracuse. Her academic work centers around multiculturalism and inclusion in counselor education.

Dr. Lee is a graduate of Handong Global University in South Korea, where she majored in counseling psychology. She holds a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling and a Ph.D. in counseling and counselor education from Syracuse University.

Jessamyn Neuhaus has joined the faculty at Syracuse University as professor and director of the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence. She most recently served as director of the State University of New York Plattsburgh Center for Teaching Excellence. She has authored several books throughout her career, including Geeky Pedagogy: A Guide for Intellectuals, Introverts, and Nerds Who Want to be Effective Teachers (West Virginia University Press, 2019).

Dr. Neuhaus is a graduate of the College of Wooster in Ohio, where she majored in religious studies. She holds a master’s degree and Ph.D. in history from Claremont Graduate University in California.
