Hope Christiansen, associate professor of French at the University of Arkansas, passed away on June 4.
Dr. Christiansen began her career with the department of world languages, literatures, and cultures at the University of Arkansas as an assistant professor of French in 1990. Six years later she was promoted to associate professor with tenure. Throughout her over three-decades-long career, she taught both undergraduate and graduate courses on French language and literature. She was active in the university’s study abroad initiatives, directing programs in various locations across France.
As a scholar, Dr. Christiansen published numerous articles, book chapters, and papers on French language teaching and literature. Alongside three co-authors, she wrote the textbook A Reference Grammar of French (Harcourt Brace, 1995). She also served as the review editor for The French Review for eight years.
Dr. Christiansen was a graduate of Kansas State University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in French. She received her Ph.D. in French from the University of Kansas.
