A Dozen Women With New Administrative Appointments in Higher Education

Lindsay Medina was named the coordinator of the student career development program at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University in Bloomington. She was an instructor for the university’s Student Academic Center and the College and Life-Long Learning Program.

Medina holds bachelor’s and master’s degree in voice from Indiana University and is expected to complete her doctorate there in 2013.

Carolyn Egan was promoted to general counsel and special counsel to the president at Florida State University. Prior to joining the legal department at Florida State in 2007, Egan was a partner with Johnson, Anselmo, Murdoch, Burke, Piper & McDuff, a law firm based in Fort Lauderdale.

Egan holds bachelor’s and law degrees from Florida State University.

Pat Pitney, vice chancellor for administrative services at the University of Alaska in Fairbanks, was named vice president for finance of the University of the Arctic. The University of the Arctic is a consortium of universities in eight countries in the polar region that collaborate on research and participate in student and faculty exchanges.

Pitney is a graduate of Murray State University in Kentucky. She holds an MBA from the University of Alaska.

Barbara Lambrecht was named interim associate director of bands at New Mexico State University. Lambrecht was the marching band director and later director of bands at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton Texas.

Lambrecht has 45 years of experience teaching band from the elementary school level to university bands. At New Mexico State, she will concentrate on the athletic bands.

Kimberly Winton was named director of the South Central Climate Center at the University of Oklahoma. The center is funded by the U.S. Department of the Interior. For the past decade, Dr. Winton has been director of the Oklahoma Water Science Center, operated by the U.S. Geological Survey.

Dr. Winton holds a bachelor’s degree in zoology and a master’s degree in agronomy from Oklahoma State University. She earned a Ph.D. in agronomy at the University of Arkansas.

Patricia Green-Powell was named interim dean of the College of Education at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee. She has been serving as associate dean for student services.

Dr. Green-Powell is a graduate of Florida A&M. She holds a master’ s degree and a doctorate in educational leadership from Florida State University.

Susan Zelewski was promoted to assistant dean at the Northeast Campus of the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Grand Forks. She has been serving as chair of the department of pediatrics.

Zelewski completed her medical training at the Baylor College of Medicine in Texas.

Kate Klimow was named assistant vice chancellor for community and government relations at the University of California at Irvine. She was vice president for government and community affairs at the Orange County Business Council.

Klimow is a native of Phoenix and earned a bachelor’s degree in anthropology from Colgate University in Hamilton, New York.

Aimee Shapiro was appointed director of education at the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum at Michigan State University. She was manager of the Artists in Education Program for Southern Exposure, a nonprofit organization in San Francisco.

A native of New York City, Shapiro is a graduate of Oberlin College. She earned a master of fine arts degree from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore.

Kelley Wilcox is the director of the newly established Office of Academic Resources at Haverford College in suburban Philadelphia. She was the associate dean for student learning resources and first-year dean at the Abu Dhabi campus of New York University.

Wilcox is currently finishing work on her dissertation for a doctorate in higher education administration at the University of Pennsylvania.

Joyce A. Jones was appointed vice chancellor for student affairs for the University System of Georgia. Since 2005, she served as vice president for student services and dean of students at Augusta State University in Georgia. She previously held administrative positions at Emory University and Northwestern University.

Dr. Jones is a graduate of Texas Woman’s University in Denton. She holds a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Nebraska.

Annette Diorio was named vice president for campus life and senior diversity officer at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania. Diorio joined the administration at Lafayette in 2000 and has served as assistant dean, associate dean, and dean of students. Most recently, Dr. Diorio was senior operations manager in the division of finance and administration.

Dr. Diorio is a graduate of the State University of New York at Cortland. She holds a master’s degree from St. Lawrence University and an educational doctorate from the University of Kansas.
