Nancy Kusmaul Recognized for Outstanding Academic Contributions to Social Work and Policy

Nancy Kusmaul, associate professor of social work at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, has received the Outstanding Individual in Academia award from the Congressional Research Institute for Social Work and Policy. She was honored for her research and advocacy for the rights of older adults and professional caregivers.

Dr. Kusmaul joined the faculty at the University of Maryland Baltimore County in 2014 as an assistant professor and was promoted to associate professor six years later. Previously, she held teaching appointments with the University at Buffalo and the College at Brockport in New York. Prior to her transition to higher education, she spent over a decade as a practicing social worker. Her professional and academic career have led to extensive research into aging policies, quality of life in nursing homes, organizational culture, and trauma-informed care.

Dr. Kusmaul is a graduate of the University of Rochester in New York where she double-majored in history and religion. She holds a master of social work degree from the University of Michigan and a Ph.D. in social welfare and aging from the University at Buffalo.
