Laurie Lauzon Clabo Named Provost of Wayne State University in Detroit

Laurie Lauzon Clabo has been appointed to a three-year term as provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. She has served as interim provost since November 2023.

Since 2015, Dr. Clabo has served as dean of Wayne State University’s College of Nursing. She also had a prior stint as interim provost from August 2020 to July 2021. During her first appointment as interim provost, she oversaw the university’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the establishment of the Office for Sexual Violence Prevention and Education. Earlier in her career, she served as dean of the School of Nursing at MGH Institute of Health Professions in Boston and as associate dean of the College of Nursing at the University of Rhode Island.

“Wayne State is truly a mission-driven university that has tremendous impact not only on the lives of our students, but our entire community, serving as an engine of social mobility,” said Dr. Clabo. “I look forward to working with all members of the campus community to grow and enhance that impact.”

Dr. Clabo holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Windsor in Ontario, Canada, a master’s degree in nursing from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and a Ph.D. in nursing from the University of Rhode Island.

The new provosts are Barbara Rodriguez at the University of New Mexico, Bridget Chalk at Manhattan University in New York, and Jaci Lederman at Vincennes University in Indiana. All three women had been serving as their university's interim provost.
