Five Women Join the Faculty at Salem College

Salem College, the liberal arts educational institution for women in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, has announced the appointment of seven new faculty members for the 2012-13 academic year. Five of the new faculty members are women.

Kathryn Adams is a visiting assistant professor of education. She holds bachelor’s and doctoral degrees from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She also earned a master’s degree from Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina.

Karen Hixson was appointed associate professor of exercise science. She is a graduate of Springfield College in Massachusetts and earned a master’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Ph.D. in exercise and sports science from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Aimee Mepham will serve as a visiting professor of creative writing at Salem College. She was also named interim director of the Center for Women Writers at the college. Mepham is a graduate of Albion College in Michigan. She earned a master of fine arts degree in creative writing from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.

Darlene Rodriguez is a visiting professor of not-for-profit management and will serve as director of the not-for-profit management and arts management program at Salem College. Dr. Rodriguez is a graduate of Florida International University in Miami. She earned a master’s degree at Rutgers University in New Jersey, as well as a master of social work degree and a Ph.D. in public administration and policy from the University of Georgia.

Laura Watts was appointed an assistant professor of biology. Dr. Watts is a graduate of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas. She earned a Ph.D. in immunology from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.
