New Dean Positions for Five Scholars

Joelle Powers has been promoted to dean of the College of Health Science at Boise State University in Idaho. She is a professor in the School of Social Work and has served as the College of Health Science’s senior associate dean since 2016.

Dr. Powers received her bachelor’s degree in family life sciences from Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, California. She holds a master of social work degree from San Diego State University and a Ph.D. in social work from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill.

Michelle Roehm has been named dean of the Freeman College of Management and the Kenneth W. Freeman professor at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. She previously served as interim dean of the School of Business at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where she taught for over two decades.

Dr. Roehm is a graduate of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign where she earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in communications. She received her Ph.D. in marketing from Northwestern University in Illinois.

María Scharrón-del Río has been appointed dean of the School of Education at Brooklyn College, a role they have held in the interim since 2022. Dr. Scharrón-del Río is a professor of the school counseling graduate program and has been a member of the Brooklyn College community since 2006.

Dr. Scharrón-del Río holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Puerto Rico.

Shannon Sesterhenn has been named dean of students at Midwestern University. She has served as interim dean since July. She began her career with the university in 1996 and has held positions at the university’s Downers Grove, Illinois campus and the Glendale, Arizona campus.

Dr. Sesterhenn received a master’s degree from Illinois State University and a doctor of education degree from Arizona State University.

Heidi Hennik-Kaminski has been recommended to the Michigan State University board of trustees to serve as dean of the College of Communication Arts and Sciences. She has been with the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill since 2006, currently serving as the Hugh Morton Distinguished Professor in the Hussman School of Journalism and Media and the senior associate dean for academic and faculty affairs.

Dr. Hennik-Kaminski graduated from the University of Michigan where she majored in communication. She received her master’s degree in communication from Western Michigan University and her Ph.D. in mass communication from the University of Georgia.
