Northern Michigan University Appoints Anne Dahlman Provost

Northern Michigan University has selected Anne Dahlman to serve as provost and vice president of academic affairs. She will assume her new role on April 1.

Dr. Dahlman has been with Minnesota State University Mankato since 2006, currently serving as interim associate provost and interim dean of global education. She also holds a faculty position with department of educational studies. Earlier in her tenure with the university, she served as chair of the department of educational studies, and director of the honors program. Her career in higher education spans nearly three decades including teaching appointments with Lappeenranta University of Technology in Finland, Colorado State University, the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire, and the University of Minnesota.

“I am very, very excited. Northern is a very unique place. I have known about Northern for a long time, I know [the university does] great work and to be honest, this position is a dream come true,” Dahlman told The North Wind, the university’s student publication. “People [here] just really want to be part of a community that does great things together, and that’s what I’m all about.”

Dr. Dahlman is a graduate of the University of Joensuu in Finland where she received a master’s degree in Swedish and German education. She holds another master’s degree in German, and a third master’s degree in teaching English as a second language both from Colorado State University. She earned her Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction from the University of Minnesota.
