Four Women Deans Stepping Into New Roles

Kristina Bross has been selected as dean of the Honors Tutorial College at Ohio University. Dr. Bross is currently a professor of English and the senior associate dean for research and creative endeavors at John Martinson Honors College at Purdue University in Indiana. She is the author or editor of several books on her speciality, early American studies: Dry Bones and Indian Sermons: Praying Indians in Colonial America (Cornell University Press, 2004) and Future History: Global Fantasies in Seventeenth-Century British and American Literature (Oxford University Press, 2017).
Dr. Bross earned her bachelor’s degree in English from Lawrence University in Wisconsin. She received her master’s degree and Ph.D. in English from the University of Chicago.
Rhea Ballard-Thrower, University Librarian and Dean of Libraries at the University of Illinois Chicago, has been selected as the 2024 vice president and president-elect of the Association of Research Libraries. She will step into the role of president effective January 1, 2025.
In addition to her role as dean, Ballard-Thrower is also a professor for both the University Library and School of Law. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Cincinnati, a master’s degree in information and library studies from the University of Michigan, and a juris doctorate from the University of Kentucky.
The University of Wyoming has appointed Michelle Hilaire, clinical professor and senior associate dean for the university’s College of Health Science, to serve as acting dean of the College until a permanent candidate is selected. Dr. Hilaire has held a number of roles during her two decades-long tenure with the University of Wyoming including chair of the department of pharmacy practice, associate dean of academic affairs in the School of Pharmacy, and associate dean of student affairs in the College of Health Sciences.
Dr. Hilaire holds a doctor of pharmacy degree from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Melissa Terlecki has been named dean of the School of Professional and Applied Psychology at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Terlecki currently serves as associate dean for the School of Arts and Sciences at Cabrini University in Wayne, Pennsylvania, where she has been a faculty member for roughly 20 years. Previously, she held academic appointments at Temple University and Villanova University, both located in Pennsylvania.
Dr Terlecki received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the College of New Jersey and a Ph.D. in cognitive psychology with a neuroscience specialization from Temple University.
