Four Women Assigned New Administrative Duties at Universities

Melinda Carlson was promoted to vice president for student affairs at the University of Memphis. She had been serving for the past two years as assistant vice president of auxiliary services & operations within the division of Business and Finance at the university. Earlier in her career, Carlson held student affairs positions at the Missouri University of Science and Technology, the University of Northern Colorado, Arkansas Tech University, the University of Mississippi, Saint Louis University, and Southern Methodist University.

Carlson holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Eastern Illinois University.

Jodi Bailey has been named vice president for student affairs at Temple University in Philadelphia. She will begin in this role on March 1. Bailey currently serves as the vice president for student development and community engagement at New Jersey City University. Dr. Bailey first joined NJCU in 2016 as the executive director of housing and residence life, before being promoted to associate vice president for student affairs in 2018. Earlier, she was director of student affairs at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University from 2011 to 2016.

Dr. Bailey holds a a bachelor’s degree in English and communications and a master’s degree in higher education, both from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She earned a Ph.D. in education research, assessment, and program evaluation from Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey.

Lisa Henderson was appointed general counsel and chief legal affairs officer at New Mexico State University. Henderson previously served as associate general counsel at Oklahoma City Community College. Earlier, she was deputy general counsel for the Office of Management and Enterprise Services, a state agency in Oklahoma.

Henderson holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology with a minor in biology from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. She earned a juris doctorate and a master’s degree in healthcare law from the University of Oklahoma College of Law in Norman.

Anita Stallings has been named vice chancellor for advancement and president of the University Foundation at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, effective February 15. She has been serving as vice dean for development and alumni affairs for the Duke University School of Nursing. Earlier, she was associate dean of advancement for the College of Sciences at North Carolina State University.

Stallings earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina.
