Three Women Scholars Who Have Been Appointed to Endowed Professorships

Rizia Bardhan, associate professor in the department of chemical and biological engineering at Iowa State University, has been selected as the inaugural Jean H. Steffenson Professor in Chemical and Biological Engineering. Before coming to Iowa State University in 2020, she taught at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. Her research focuses on applications in cancer, inflammatory bowel diseases, and infectious diseases, utilizing cutting-edge technologies to develop innovative therapeutic approaches.

Prof. Bardhan received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and mathematics from Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri. She holds a Ph.D. from Rice University in Houston, Texas.

Beverly Brozanski of the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis has been named the inaugural Susan and James C. Gould Professor of Pediatric Quality and Safety. A professor of pediatrics, Dr. Brozanski also is vice chair of quality and safety for the university’s department of pediatrics; vice president of pediatric quality improvement and patient safety for BJC HealthCare; and chief medical officer of St. Louis Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Brozanski earned a bachelor’s degree in biology at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. She received her medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.

Jennifer Joe, professor of accounting and information systems in the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech, has been named the John E. Peterson Jr. Professor in Accounting. Dr. Joe joined the Virginia Tech faculty this fall after having served as the Whitney Family Professor of Accounting at the University of Delaware.

Dr. Joe received her bachelor’s degree from Bernard M. Baruch College of the City University of New York. She earned a Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh.
