Universities Announce the Appointments of Women to Dean Positions

Kellee Tsai, a political science professor and expert on China’s political economy, was named dean of the College of Social Sciences and Humanities at Northeastern University in Boston, effective in February. Dr. Tsai will be coming to Northwestern from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, where she has been serving as dean of humanities and social science since 2018 and head of the Division of Social Science since 2013. Earlier, she was a professor and vice dean of the humanities and social sciences at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.

Dr. Tsai holds a bachelor’s degree from Barnard College and a Ph.D. from Columbia University.

Harriette Scott was appointed dean of University College at Virginia Union University in Richmond. She has been serving as a senior lecturer in the higher education leadership program at Boston University. Earlier, she held dean positions at in Brockton, Massachusetts, and Tulsa Community College in Oklahoma.

Dr. Scott holds a master’s degree in early child education from Norfolk State University in Virginia. She earned a doctorate in community college leadership from Morgan State University in Baltimore.

Louisa-Hope-Weeks is the new dean of the College of Science at the University of Nevada Reno. She was a professor in the department of chemistry and biochemistry at Texas Tech University. She served on the faculty there for 19 years.

Originally from the United Kingdom, Dr. Hope-Weeks obtained her bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Hertfordshire and her doctoral degree in chemistry from the University of Cambridge. She came to the U.S. after earning her Ph.D. for a postdoctoral position at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

Most recently, Dr. Sanders served as vice president of experiential product management and interim vice president of product and technology at Western Governors University.
