University of Pennsylvania’s Beverly Crawford Honored by the National Dental Association Foundation

Beverley Crawford, professor of clinical restorative dentistry and director of the student diversity and inclusion initiatives at the University of Pennsylvania, has been recognized for her service to students and academics as the 2023 recipient of the National Dental Association Foundation’s Colgate-Palmolive Faculty Recognition Award. The Faculty Awards Program honors individuals who have demonstrated excellence in professional development and a willingness to support and to help others in their quest for knowledge and advancement. Dr. Crawford was recognized at the 110th Annual Convention of the National Dental Association Foundation in New Orleans.

A member of the Penn Dental Medicine faculty since 1989, Dr. Crawford has supported and advocated for students in a diversity of roles, including as the faculty advisor of the Penn Dental Medicine chapter of the Student National Dental Association. She also directs the Provost’s Summer Mentorship Program for high school students interested in exploring careers in dental medicine and the Introduction to Dentistry program for undergraduate predental students.

“This is a well-deserved recognition of Dr. Crawford’s great work on behalf of our current students and in helping to build a pipeline for future students by introducing them to the opportunities within dental medicine,” said Mark Wolff, the Morton Amsterdam Dean of Penn Dental Medicine.

Dr. Crawford holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and a doctor of dental surgery degree from Howard University in Washington, D.C.
