Stacia Haynie Chosen as the Thirteenth President of Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas

Alumna Stacia Haynie was selected as the sole finalist to be president of Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. Under state law her appointment requires a 21-day waiting period before it can be made final.

Midwestern State University enrolls just over 5,000 graduate students and about 750 graduate students according to the most recent U.S. Department of Education data. Women make up 64 percent of the undergraduate student body.

“It is an honor and a privilege to be named the sole finalist for the presidency of Midwestern State University,” Dr. Haynie said. “MSU Texas and the Wichita Falls community have always held a special place in my heart, and I am ecstatic to have the opportunity to lead my alma mater into the next chapter in its history. My intellectual foundation was built at MSU Texas – which is a credit to the faculty and staff of this extraordinary university. I am excited to serve the MSU Texas community and to work tirelessly with the incredible faculty, staff and students to provide that same foundation for others.”

In 2019, Dr. Haynie was named executive vice president and provost at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. Earlier, Dr. Haynie was dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the J.W. Annison Jr. Family Alumni Professor in the department of political science. She joined the faculty at LSU in 1990. Professor Haynie studies judicial politics with special emphasis on comparative appellate court decision-making. She also has expertise in the legal systems of South Africa, the Philippines, and India.

Dr. Haynie holds a bachelor’s degree in theater and a master’s degree in political science from Midwestern State University. She earned a Ph.D. in political science at the University of North Texas.
