Eight Women Named to Dean Positions at Colleges and Universities

Lyon College School of Veterinary Medicine in Little Rock, Arkansas, has appointed Eleanor M. Green as its founding dean. She is professor emerita and dean emerita of veterinary medicine at Texas A&M University. She is senior adviser/consultant for Animal Policy Group in Scottsdale, Arizona, and vice president of Iron Horse Consulting & Iron Horse Farm in Texas.

Dr. Green earned a bachelor’s degree at the University of Florida and a doctor of veterinary medicine degree from Auburn University in Alabama.

Ann F. McKenna has been named dean of the University of Iowa College of Engineering. She has been serving as vice dean of strategic advancement at the Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering at Arizona State University and as professor of engineering in the Polytechnic School. Dr. McKenna will begin her new duties on August 16. Before joining the faculty at Arizona State, Dr. McKenna was a program officer at the National Science Foundation and served on the faculty at Northwestern University.

Professor McKenna holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering from Drexel University in Philadelphia and a Ph.D. in engineering education from the University of California, Berkeley.

Tiyahri Wilson is the new dean of student responsibility and university standards at Texas Southern University in Houston. She was the director of Title IX Compliance at Prairie View A&M University in Texas.

Dr. Wilson holds an associate’s degree in human services, a bachelor’s degree in child and family studies, a master’s degree in psychology, and a doctorate in clinical psychology.

Stacey Floyd was named dean of general education and teaching innovation at Tiffin University in Ohio. She joined the faculty at the university five years ago. She is the co-editor of New Woman Writers, Authority and the Body (Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2009).

Dr. Floyd holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education and English, as well as a Ph.D. in English from the University of Kentucky.

Bridget Gourley was chosen to be the inaugural dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and dean of the faculty at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. Dr. Gourley has been a member of the university’s faculty since 1988. She has served as director of the Women in Science Program and chair of the department of chemistry and biochemistry.

Dr. Gourley earned bachelor’s degrees in chemistry and mathematics from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington. She holds a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the University of Utah.

Mary Bell has been named the new dean of the Beacom College of Computer and Cyber Sciences at Dakota State University in Madison, South Dakota. Her experience includes her most recent position as professor and faculty department head of operational art and campaign planning at the National Defense University. Earlier, she taught at the U.S. Air Force Academy.

A native of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Dr. Bell earned a bachelor’s degree in international business from New Mexico State University. She holds a master’s degree in international relations from St. Mary’s University in Texas and a Ph.D. in international studies from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.

Monika Williams Shealey was appointed dean of the College of Education and Human Development at Temple University in Philadelphia. She previously served as senior vice president of diversity, equity, and inclusion and dean of the College of Education at Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey. Earlier, Dr. Williams Shealey served as associate dean for teacher education at the School of Education at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Dr. Williams Shealey holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of South Florida in Tampa. She earned her doctorate at the University of Central Florida in Orlando.

Filiz Tabak will be the next dean of the College of Business at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia. She has been a faculty member, a graduate program director, a department chair, and, most recently, acting associate dean at Towson University in Maryland.

Dr. Tabak is a first-generation college student who earned a bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering from Istanbul Technical University and a master’s degree in marine physics and chemistry from Istanbul University in Türkiye. She went on to earn an MBA from Bogazici University in Türkiye and a Ph.D. from Oklahoma State University.

Caroline Attardo Genco Named the First Woman President of the University at Buffalo

Dr. Geneco comes to her new role from Tufts University in Massachusetts, where she has served as provost for the past four years. She is slated become the University at Buffalo's first woman president on August 10.
