A Half Dozen Women Who Have Been Appointed to Administrative Posts in Higher Education

Pam Agoyo has been appointed as the new executive director for student support in the Division of Student Affairs at the University of New Mexico. Most recently, Agoyo served as the director of American Indian Student Services, special assistant to the president for American Indian Affairs, and interim co-director for the Office of Advising Strategies at the university. Agoyo, who has been with the University of New Mexico for over 25 years in various capacities, will assume her executive director role on July 1.

Agoyo holds bachelor’s degrees in psychology and sociology and a master’s degree in organizational learning and institutional technology from the University of New Mexico.

Carlane Pittman-Hampton has been named chief of staff to the president of the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. She has been serving as assistant dean of residential MBA programs at the university’s Raymond A. Mason School of Business. Dr. Pittman-Hampton has been at William & Mary for more than two decades, starting as a graduate assistant in the School of Education. She will start her new role on July 17.

Dr. Pittman-Hampton holds a bachelor’s degree in physics from Spelman College in Atlanta. She earned a master’s degree in education from Hampton University in Virginia and a Ph.D. in educational policy, planning, and leadership from the College of William and Mary.

JaNae Joyner has joined Salem Academy and College in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, as chief of staff. She previously was associate vice president and assistant dean of curriculum experience and support services at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine.

Dr. Joyner is a graduate of the University of Mount Olive in North Carolina, where she majored in biology. She holds a master’s degree in healthcare administration from Winston-Salem State University and a Ph.D. in molecular medicine from Wake Forest University.

Alexis J. McLean was named vice president for student affairs at LaGuardia Community College of the City University of New York. She has been serving as the dean of students at Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn. She has been on the staff there for 14 years.

Dr. McLean earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Pennsylvania State University. She holds a master’s degree in mental health and wellness counseling and a doctorate in higher education administration, both from New York University.

Laura McAndrew is the new associate vice president and associate treasurer at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. Previously, McAndrew was the associate vice president of finance and assistant treasurer at American University in Washington, D.C. Earlier, she was the senior director for treasury operations at Duke University from 2000 to 2009.

McAndrew holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and a master’s degree in accounting from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.

Wendy Wallace was appointed director of civic engagement at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. She had been serving as director of engagement and development for the National Student Support Accelerator, an initiative launched at Brown’s Annenberg Institute for School Reform in 2021 to combat pandemic-related learning loss for K-12 students through high-impact tutoring.

Wallace earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and an MBA from Johnson and Wales University in Providence.
