Four Women Scholars Who Have Been Appointed to Endowed Professorships

Lilian Garcia-Roig, a professor in the department of art at Florida State University since 2001, was named the Robert O. Lawton Distinguished Professor at the university. Over the course of three decades, the Cuban-born artist has built an expansive body of work that is collected by major museums across the world, including Florida’s most prestigious cultural institution, the Perez Art Museum in Miami.

Professor Garcia-Roig is a graduate of Southern Methodist University in Dallas. She holds a master of fine arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania.

Pamela K. Woodard, a leader in cardiothoracic imaging, has been named head of the department of radiology, director of Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology, and was named the Elizabeth E. Mallinckrodt Professor of Radiology at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. She has been serving as the Hugh Monroe Wilson Professor of Radiology, division director of Radiology Research Facilities and the director of the Center for Clinical Imaging Research.

Dr. Woodward joined the faculty at Washington University in 1997. She earned her bachelor’s and medical degrees at Duke University.

Kathryn Rand was named a Chester Fritz Distinguished Professor at the University of North Dakota. She is the co-director of the Institute for the Study of Tribal Gaming Law & Policy and a professor of law at the university. From 2009 to 2018, Professor Rand served as dean of the School of Law and was the first woman to hold that position.

Professor Rand is a graduate of the University of North Dakota and holds a juris doctorate from the University of Michigan.

Monica Swahn, dean of the Wellstar College of Health and Human Services at Kennesaw State University in Georgia, was recently installed as the Dr. Betty L. Siegel Distinguished Chair in Health and Wellness. Before coming to Kennesaw State in 2021. Dr. Swahn taught at Georgia State University of 14 years.

Dr. Swahn holds a Ph.D. in epidemiology from the University of Pittsburgh.
