Six Woman Scholars Assigned to New Roles or Duties at Colleges and Universities

Julianne Grose, a professor of microbiology and molecular biology at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, has been given the added duties as associate vice president in the Office of Belonging at the university. Dr. Grose joined the faculty at the university in 2008 and was named a full professor in 2021.

Professor Grose holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and a Ph.D. in biology from the University of Utah.

Emily House is a new lecturer in the department of leadership, policy, and organizations at Vanderbilt Peabody College of education and human development. Prior to becoming a lecturer, Dr. House was an adjunct instructor at Peabody who taught statistics and research methods in the online leadership and learning in organizations doctoral program. She is the former executive director of the Tennessee Higher Education Commission.

Dr. House is a graduate of Cornell University, where she majored in policy analysis and management. She holds a master of public policy degree from Vanderbilt University and a master’s degree in statistics and a Ph.D. in education from the University of Michigan.

Michelle Robinson, an associate professor in the School of Dentistry, was given the added duties of senior vice provost for faculty affairs at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Robinson has previously served as associate dean for Health Information and Business Systems and interim dean of the School of Dentistry.

Dr. Robinson is a graduate of Adelphi University in Garden City, New York. She earned a doctorate in dental medicine at Rutgers University in Newark, New Jersey.

Georgia Mansell is a new assistant professor of physics at Syracuse University in New York. Her research is focused on optics, lasers, and instrumentation for interferometric ground-based gravitational-wave detectors.

Dr. Mansell is a graduate of the University of Adelaide in South Australia. She earned a Ph.D. at Australian National University in Canberra.

Patricia Smith was appointed professor in the Lewis Center for the Arts at Princeton University, effective September 1. She is currently a visiting professor in creative writing at Princeton and a distinguished professor at the City University of New York, where she has taught since 2009. She is the author of eight books of poetry, including Incendiary Art (TriQuarterly, 2017), which won the 2018 Kingsley Tufts Award for Poetry.

Professor Smith earned a master of fine arts degree in creative writing at the University of Southern Maine.

Theresa Law was hired as an assistant professor of computer science at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, effective beginning in the 2023-24 academic year. Her research is in human-robot interaction.

Law is a 2018 graduate of Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York, where she majored in cognitive science. She is on track to earn a Ph.D. in computer science this summer from Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts.

Most recently, Dr. Sanders served as vice president of experiential product management and interim vice president of product and technology at Western Governors University.
