Talbot’s the specialty retailer of women’s apparel has announced the winners of its 2012 Talbots Women’s Scholarships. Since the programs inception in 1997, the Talbots Charitable Foundation has awarded more than 600 college scholarships to women worth more than $1.6 million.
This year, 17 women were awarded $10,000 scholarships and one woman received the $30,000 Nancy Talbot Scholarship. The $30,000 scholarship was presented to Roberta Guerrero. She received an associate’s degree in theater arts this year and will continue her education at the University of California at Berkeley to complete a bachelor’s degree in creative writing. Guerrero stated, “My mother once said, ‘If you don’t try, you won’t know you can.’ I never thought I could go to college, but I tried, and here I am.”
