Three Women Scholars Who Have Been Appointed to Endowed Faculty Positions

Nicole Uphold has been appointed the R. Grant and Elizabeth “Libba” G. Singleton Endowed Professor in Teacher Education at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, South Carolina. Prior to coming to Coastal Carolina University in 2018, she was a faculty member at Illinois State University where she taught undergraduate and graduate courses focused on educating students with severe disabilities.

Dr. Uphold is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University, where she majored in psychology. She earned a master’s degree in vocational rehabilitation counseling from the University of Texas at Austin and a Ph.D. in special education from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Audrey Sorrells, professor of special education in the College of Education at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, was named to the Ann M. Jones Endowed Chair in Special Education. Professor Sorrells also serves as the director of the Alice Neeley Special Education Research and Service Institute at the university. She specializes in cultural and linguistic diversity in special education, with research focused on the intersection of culture and disability through the lens of the Black student experience in public education in the United States

Professor Sorrells holds a Ph.D. in special education from the University of Florida.

Jennifer Tosti-Kharas has been appointed to the Camilla Latino Spinelli Endowed Term Chair at Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts. Prior to joining Babson College in 2015, she was an assistant professor of management at San Francisco State University. Her research explores career development, focusing on meaningful work, and work as a calling. Dr. Tosti-Kharas is the author of the forthcoming book Is Work Worth It? (PublicAffairs).

Dr. Tosti-Kharas is a graduate of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where she majored in economics. She holds a Ph.D. in management with an emphasis on organizational behavior from New York University’s Stern School of Business.
