Wafaa El-Sadr, University Professor of epidemiology and medicine and the Dr. Mathilde Krim-amfAR Chair of Global Health at Columbia University in New York City, was given the added duties of executive vice president for Columbia Global Centers. There are now nine centers around the world.
Dr. El-Sadr earned her medical degree at Cairo University in Egypt. She holds a master of public health degree from Columbia University and a master of public administration degree from Harvard University.
Kimberly Councill was appointed director of the School of Music at the University of Utah. She most recently served as the associate dean of faculty for the Arts and Humanities Division of the College of Arts and Sciences and a professor of music with an emphasis in music education at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Councill holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She earned a Ph.D. in music teacher education at Ohio State University.
Alicia Monroe was named chief integration officer at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. In this role, she will direct the formation of an academic health sciences center with Eastern Virginia Medical School and Sentara Healthcare. Dr. Monroe has been serving as provost and senior vice president of academic and faculty affairs and professor of family medicine at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.
A graduate of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, and the Indiana University School of Medicine, Professor Monroe completed an internship in psychiatry at Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
Jean Dodson Peterson will join Washington State University this fall as an associate professor and founding chair of the newly created department of viticulture and enology. She’s been on the faculty at California Polytechnic State Unversity since 2014, where her research focuses on grapevine rootstock-scion interactions.
Dr. Dodson Peterson earned a bachelor’s degree in viticulture and enology with a minor in managerial economics, a master’s degree, and a Ph.D. in horticulture and agronomy, all from the University of California, Davis.
Anna Zajicek, professor of sociology and associate dean in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas, has been named interim vice provost for faculty affairs. Dr. Zajicek began her career at the university in 1994 as an instructor in the department of sociology and criminology.
Professor Zajicek earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in sociology at the University of Silesia in Poland. She holds a Ph.D. in sociology from Virginia Polytechnic and State University.
Janey Camp, research professor of civil and environmental engineering at Vanderbilt Univerity in Nashville, was given the added duties of director of the Vanderbilt Engineering Center for Transportation and Operational Resiliency.
Dr. Camp holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from Tennessee Technological University. She earned a Ph.D. in environmental engineering at Vanderbilt University.
Amy Santonastaso recently joined the faculty of the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine as a clinical assistant professor in the Equine Field Service. Her research is focused on treating and studying equine metabolic diseases.
Dr. Santonastaso earned a master’s degree from the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine and a doctor of veterinary medicine degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine.
Karin Pfeiffer was named executive director of the Institute for the Study of Youth Sports at Michigan State University. She is a professor of kinesiology at the university. Her research has focused on physical activity in youth and adolescents, both in measuring and in increasing the rate of physical activity.
Professor Pfeiffer holds a Ph.D. from Michigan State University.
Sora Jun is a new assistant professor of management in the Jones Graduate School of Business at Rice University in Houston, Texas. She served for five years on the faculty of the Naveen Jindal School of Management at the University of Texas at Dallas.
Dr. Son is a graduate of the University of Toronto, where she majored in economics. She holds a Ph.D. in organizational behavior from the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University.
