Six Women Faculty Members Who Are Taking on New Assignments at Universities

Mary Bernstein, a professor of sociology at the University of Connecticut, has accepted the offer to serve as associate dean of The Graduate School at the university, effective August 24. Dr. Berntein joined the faculty in 2001 after teaching at Arizona State University. She was promoted to full professor in 2011.

Dr. Bernstein is a graduate of Middlebury College in Vermont, where she majored in mathematics. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in sociology from New York University.

Kristina G. Douglass has been appointed as an associate professor of climate at Columbia University in New York City. She was the Joyce and Doug Sherwin Early Career Professor in the Rock Ethics Institute and assistant professor of anthropology and African studies at Pennsylvania State University. Dr. Douglass is the first faculty hire for the Columbia Climate School. Her research focuses on investigating human-environment interaction in Madagascar.

Dr. Douglass holds a bachelor’s degree in classical archaeology from Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in anthropology at Yale University.

Shannon Monnat, Lerner Chair for Public Health Promotion and professor of sociology at Syracuse University in New York, has been given the added duties of director of the Center for Policy Research in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. She currently serves as the director of the Maxwell School’s Lerner Center for Public Health Promotion and co-directs the Policy, Place, and Population Health Lab. Professor Monnat studies demographic and geographic trends and disparities in health and mortality, with an interest in rural health and health disparities.

Professor Monnat holds a Ph.D. from the University at Albany of the State University of New York System.

Miranda Drake was named chair of the department of dental hygiene at the University of South Dakota. She was an associate professor and interim chair of the dental hygiene program at the University of Minnesota.

Drake holds a bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene degree from Minnesota State University, Mankato. She earned a master’s degree in dental hygiene education from the University of Minnesota.

Ashleigh Graveline has been promoted from clinical assistant professor to clinical associate professor of occupational therapy in the Earl R. and Barbara D. Lewis School of Health Sciences at Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York.

Dr. Graveline received a bachelor’s degree in health studies and a master’s degree in occupational therapy from Utica College. She earned a doctoral degree from Chatham University in Pittsburgh.

Nancy Glenn, a professor of geosciences at Boise State Univerity in Idaho, was named vice president for research and economic development at the university. Dr. Glenn’s research focuses on imaging spectroscopy and lidar remote sensing of the environment.

Professor Glenn earned a bachelor’s degree in geological engineering and a Ph.D. in geo-engineering from the University of Nevada Reno. She also holds a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of California, Berkeley
