Four Doctoral Recipients With a Lot in Common

The University of North Carolina at Wilmington recently awarded four doctorates in its new educational leadership program. The four new doctoral recipients have many things in common. They are all women, they all have young children, and they all hold leadership positions in education.

The four new doctoral holders are:

Edelmira Segovia

• Edelmira Segovia, director of Centro Hispano at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington;

• Dawn Hodges, director of The Hill School in Wilmington;

• Emily Grace, a teacher of English as a second language in the Hanover County public school system; and

• Kimberly O’Briant,, lead staff development coordinator for the Hanover County public schools.

Dr. Segovia stated, “It was a heavy load to juggle education, employment, and family. I was blessed with a great support system and a supervisor who encouraged me to continue my education.”
