Colleges and Universities Announce the Appointment of Eight Women to Dean Positions

Rosario Ceballo will join Georgetown University in January as dean of Georgetown College and professor of psychology. She currently serves as professor of psychology and women’s and gender studies and associate dean for the social sciences at the University of Michigan’s College of Literature, Science, and the Arts. From 2015-2018, she served as chair of the university’s department of women’s and gender studies.

Dr. Ceballo is a graduate of Yale University. She earned a Ph.D. in clinical and developmental psychology at the University of Michigan.

Venetria K. Patton was appointed dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She was the head of the School of Interdisciplinary Studies at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. Earlier, she was an associate professor of English and of African American studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She is the author of Women in Chains: The Legacy of Slavery in Black Women’s Fiction (State University of New York Press, 1999).

Dr. Patton is a graduate of the University of La Verne in California, where she majored in literature. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in literature from the University of California, Riverside.

Andrea Goodwin was named the inaugural assistant vice president and dean of students within the Division of Student Affairs at the University of Maryland College Park, effective August 30. She has served as the director of student conduct at the university for the past several years.

Dr. Goodwin earned a bachelor’s degree from the Whitman School of Management and a master’s degree in higher education administration from the School of Education at Syracuse University. She earned a Ph.D. in education policy, planning, and administration from the University of Maryland.

Sharon Subreenduth is the new dean of the College of Education at Georgia Southern University. For the past three years, she has been the associate dean for the College of Education at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Earlier, she was a professor of curriculum and instruction at Bowling Green State University in Ohio.

A native of South Africa, Dr. Subreenduth earned a bachelor’s degree in English, geography, and education from the University of Durban-Westville and a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of South Africa. She holds a master’s degree in social studies and global-multicultural education and a Ph.D. in curriculum, instruction, and professional development from Ohio State University.

Michelle Corley was named dean of the College of Engineering, Science, Technology, and Agriculture at Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio. She was a professor of animal molecular immunogenetics at Virginia State University.

Dr. Corley earned a bachelor’s degree in animal and poultry science and a master’s degree in ruminant nutrition and rumen microbiology from Tuskegee University in Alabama. She earned a Ph.D. in avian molecular immunology and virology from Auburn University in Alabama.

Emmeline de Pillis was appointed dean of the College of Business and Public Management at the University of La Verne in California. She has been serving as interim dean of the College of Business and Economics at the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo. She joined the faculty there in 1997.

Dr. Pillis earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and computer science at the University of California, San Diego. She holds a Ph.D. in business administration from the University of Southern California.

Toneyce S. Randolph is the new vice president and dean of academic services at Clinton College in Rock Hill, South Carolina. She was the chief academic officer at Concorde Career College in Memphis, Tennessee.

Dr. Randolph is a graduate of LeMoyne-Owen College in Memphis. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Memphis and a doctorate in education from Northcentral University.

Linda R. Edwards will serve as dean of the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville. She has been serving as the senior associate dean for educational affairs, associate chair of the department of medicine, chief of the division of internal medicine, and the medical director for the program for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. She has been on the faculty at the medical school since 1985.

Dr. Evans earned her medical degree at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina.
