Tulane Professor Becomes One of the Few Women Members of the Mexican Academy of History

Elizabeth Boone, the Martha and Donald Robertson Chair in Latin American Art at Tulane University in New Orleans, was elected a member of the Mexican Academy of History. The organization was founded in 1919 as an affiliate of the Royal Academy of History in Madrid. Only a very small number of members of the Mexican Academy of History are from the United States and very few are women.

Professor Boone specializes in pre-Columbian and early colonial art of Latin America, with an emphasis on Mexico. She has been on the Tulane University faculty since 1985. Her latest book is Cycles of Time and Meaning in the Mexican Books of Fate (University of Texas Press, 2007).

Dr. Boone is a graduate of the College of William and Mary. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in art history from the University of Texas.
