Three Women Appointed to Diversity Positions in Higher Education

Angela Mosley-Monts has been promoted to associate vice chancellor for diversity, equity, and inclusion at the University of Arkansas. Since 2018, she has been serving as assistant vice chancellor in the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at the university.

Mosley-Monts holds a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism and a master’s degree in ministry from John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. She earned an MBA at Webster University in Missouri and is a Ph.D. candidate in comparative literature and cultural studies at the University of Arkansas.

Ivy Banks, associate vice provost for diversity and inclusion at the University of Arizona, has been appointed the inaugural vice chair of the Chief Diversity Officers Steering Committee of the Association of American Universities. As vice chair, Banks will help lead an effort to shape and guide diversity and inclusion-related policy, specifically for research universities, at the national level. Banks joined the University of Arizona in September after serving as assistant vice president for student affairs, engagement, and inclusive excellence at Northern Arizona University.

Banks holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Cleveland State University. She holds a master’s degree in educational leadership from Northern Arizona University and a juris doctorate from the University of Akron in Ohio.

Samira M. Payne is the first director of Black student initiatives in the Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was program director for student-athlete transition programs at the University of Notre Dame.

Payne graduated from Marquette University in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in social welfare and justice. She earned a master’s degree in instructional leadership-policy studies from the University of Illinois at Chicago and a master’s degree in nonprofit administration from the University of Notre Dame.
