Massachusetts College of Art and Design Appoints Mary F. Grant as Its Next President

Mary K. Grant was appointed the thirteenth president of the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston. She will begin her new job this summer.

The Massachusetts College of Art and Design enrolls nearly 2,000 undergraduate students and more than 100 graduate students according to the most recent data available from the U.S. Department of Education. Women make up 72 percent of the undergraduate student body.

“It is an honor to be chosen as MassArt’s next president,” said Dr. Grant. “MassArt has a well-deserved reputation for excellence, and I am exhilarated by its potential to lead even more strategically and energetically in Boston, the Commonwealth, and beyond. I embrace this challenge and look forward to serving the community of MassArt students, alumni, faculty, staff, and supporters at this important moment in the college’s history.”

Dr. Grant currently serves as Senior Administrative Fellow for Civics and Social Justice, leading the Martin Richard Institute for Social Justice and serving as Co-Chair of the President’s Special Task Force on Racial Justice at Bridgewater State University in Massachusetts. Earlier in her career, Dr. Grant was president of the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts and chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Asheville.

Dr. Grant is a graduate of North Adams State University in Massachusetts, where she majored in sociology. She holds a master of public affairs degree from the University of Massachusetts Boston and a Ph.D. from the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts.
