Three Women Scholars Promoted and Granted Tenure at the College of the Holy Cross

The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, recently announced the promotion of four faculty members to the rank of associate professor. All four were also granted tenure. Three of the promotions and tenure awards went to women.

L. Gaby Avila-Bront was promoted to associate professor of chemistry. Her research focuses on the study of surface-absorbate systems and their electronic and chemical relationships. She has been a member of the Holy Cross faculty since 2014. Dr. Avila-Bront earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Columbia University in New York City. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the University of Chicago.

Melissa Schoenberger was appointed an associate professor of English. She has been a member of the faculty at the College of the Holy Cross since 2015. Her research focuses on Restoration and 18th-century British literature. Dr. Schoenberger holds a bachelor’s degree in English and Spanish literatures from the University of Rochester in New York. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in English literature from Boston University.

Olena Staveley-O’Carroll was named an associate professor in the department of economics and accounting. A member of the faculty since 2015, Dr. Staveley-O’Carroll’s research focuses on open economy macroeconomics, international capital movements, and monetary policy. Dr. Staveley-O’Carroll is a graduate of Lakeland University in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, where she majored in economics, mathematics, and chemistry. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in economics at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
