New Administrative Roles at Colleges and Universities for Nine Women

Hyemi Sevening is the new associate dean for institutional advancement at the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. She was assistant dean for advancement at the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of California, Davis. She previously held fundraising positions at Illinois Institute of Technology’s Armour College of Engineering and Iowa State University’s College of Engineering.

Sevening is a graduate of the University of Louisville in Kentucky, where she majored in history.

Marilyn Sutton-Haywood was appointed interim vice president of academic affairs at Mitchell College in New London, Connecticut. She most recently served as dean of the division of liberal arts and sciences at Pfeiffer University in North Carolina.

Dr. Sutton-Haywood is a graduate of North Carolina Central University. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from Atlanta University.

Theresa Curry was named interim vice chancellor of advancement at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Curry joined the staff at the Amherst campus in 2018, when she was named executive director of planned giving. Shortly thereafter, she was promoted to assistant vice chancellor for development and most recently to associate vice chancellor for development. Previously, Curry worked at the University of New Hampshire Foundation.

Curry is a graduate of the University of Minnesota, where she majored in mathematics. She earned a juris doctorate at what is now the Mitchell Hamline School of Law in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

Danielle Haynes was appointed associate dean of students for conflict coaching and case management at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Haynes previously served as a legislative aid for the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus, and as an advocate for survivor services and coordinator of student case management for Bowling Green State University in Ohio.

Haynes holds bachelor’s degrees in political science and African American and African studies from Ohio State University. She earned a master’s degree in global international relations from Webster University in St. Louis.

Jocelyn Biggs is the new associate vice president of enrollment at Clinton College in Rock Hill, South Carolina. She was director of admissions at Virginia Union University in Richmond. Previously, Biggs held admissions positions at Johnson C. Smith University, Bennett College, and Livingstone College.

Biggs earned a bachelor’s degree in mass communication from Bennett College in Greensboro, North Carolina, and a master’s degree in higher education administration/enrollment management from Bay Path University in Massachusetts.

Leslie Maynes is the new executive director of university communications and marketing at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. She was managing director at Two Rivers Marketing in Des Moines, which delivers strategic marketing direction to a global client base.

Maynes is a graduate of the National Univerity of Ireland in Galway. She holds degrees in English and journalism from the University of Iowa.

Kimberly Hardy-Porter is the new director of the Credentials for Leadership in Management and Business (CLIMB) program at Wilberforce University in Ohio. She taught English as a second language at Columbus State Community College in Ohio.

Dr. Porter is a graduate of Wilberforce University. She holds a master’s degree in education and an educational doctorate, both from Northcentral University.

Megan Chibanga was appointed interim director of residence life & student housing at the University of New Mexico She was assistant director of residence life. Earlier, she worked for California State University, Chico and Webster University in St. Louis.

Dr. Chibanga is a graduate of Webster University, where she majored in speech communication. She holds a master’s degree and a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of New Mexico.

Dawn L. Ridley was named assistant vice president of institutional giving at Howard University in Washington, D.C. Before joining Howard, she worked as the strategy and planning director for AARP Services, Inc., where she led the strategy development for AARP-endorsed financial products and services.

Ridley holds a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University and an MBA from Clark Atlanta University.
