Three Women Who Have Been Appointed to Diversity Positions in Higher Education

Maysa Akbar, an assistant clinical professor of cultural diversity and family therapy at the Yale Child Study Center, was named chief diversity officer for the American Psychological Association. Dr. Akbar operates a clinical practice based in New Haven, Connecticut, that specializes in race-based trauma.

Originally from the Dominican Republic, Dr. Akbar grew up in Brooklyn, New York. She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology at the University at Albany of the State University of New York System. Dr. Akbar holds a master’s degree in community psychology from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Saint Louis University.

Lorie Johnson-Osho is the new director of faculty diversity and development in the Office of the Provost at the University of Pittsburgh. She was an assistant professor in the education department at Grove City College in Pennsylvania.

Dr. Johnson- Osho earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and communication and a master’s degree in counseling education from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. She holds a doctorate in educational administration and leadership from Roosevelt University in Chicago.

Eboni Britt was named executive director of strategic communications in the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at Syracuse University in New York. Prior to her current role, Britt oversaw a strategy team in the Division of Marketing and Communications and had previously worked in the university’s Office of Human Resources.

Britt is originally from Colorado Springs, Colorado. She earned a master’s degree in public relations from the Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University.
