Colleges and Universities Announce the Appointments of Five Women to Administrative Positions

Susan Cunningham, director of leadership giving at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, has been promoted to be the university’s new executive director of university development. Cunningham joined the staff at the university in 2001 as a capital giving officer. She later served as director of capital giving. Prior to coming to Washington and Lee, Cunningham held development roles at Georgia Southern University, the University of Kentucky, and the Savannah College of Art & Design.

A graduate of the University of Kentucky, Cunningham earned a master’s degree in education at Vanderbilt University in Nashville.

Mary Rob Plunkett was promoted to director of athletics at the University of North Georgia. She has been serving as associate athletic director for business and senior woman administrator at the university. Plunkett joined the staff at the university in 2016.

Plunkett earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Georgia College & State University, where she was a four-time letter winner and team captain on the women’s soccer team. She holds a master’s degree in exercise and sport science/sport administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is currently pursuing an MBA at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Sally C. Morton was appointed executive vice president and director of the Knowledge Enterprise at Arizona State University. She will oversee annual research expenditures of $640 million on subjects ranging from space exploration to food systems. Dr. Morton is the first woman to hold the position. She was dean of the College of Science and interim director of the Fralin Life Sciences Institute at Virginia Tech.

Dr. Morton holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematical sciences, a master’s degree in operations research, and a doctoral degree in statistics, all from Stanford University. She also earned a master’s degree in statistics from the London School of Economics.

Angela Salas was named vice president for academic affairs at Edgewood College in Maidson, Wisconsin. She was provost and vice president for academic affairs at Framingham State University in Massachusetts. Dr. Salas has also served as associate vice chancellor for academic affairs at Indiana University Southeast.

Dr. Salas holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pennsylvania. She earned a master’s degree in English from the University of Nebraska-Kearney, and a Ph.D. in English from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Sara Asher will be the new assistant dean of students for the Beren Campus of Yeshiva University in New York City. For the past two years, Dr. Asher worked as the director of school psychology at Yeshiva of Central Queens, an elementary school in Flushing, New York.

Dr. Asher earned a doctorate in psychology at Pace University in New York.

Caroline Attardo Genco Named the First Woman President of the University at Buffalo

Dr. Geneco comes to her new role from Tufts University in Massachusetts, where she has served as provost for the past four years. She is slated become the University at Buffalo's first woman president on August 10.
