Hannah Colton, the news director for KUNM, the public broadcasting station of the University of New Mexico, died on November 10. She was 29 years old.
Colton was a native of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She graduated from Washington High School in Cedar Rapids and went on to get her bachelor’s degree in public policy from Duke University in North Carolina.
Colton’s first job in radio was as a news reporter at KDLG in Dillingham, Alaska. Then she moved to Albuquerque, where she was a freelance reporter prior to joining KUNM as a full-time public health reporter.
Colton’s colleague Marusa DeMarco, a reporter at the radio station, said that “the loss is great for KUNM, and, no exaggeration, huge for the world. We lost a real warrior for truth.”
