Three Women Who Will Be Taking on New Administrative Duties at Major Universities

Gloria Johnson-Cusack was appointed senior advisor to the president at Florida International University in Miami. She is chair of the board of trustees of the Silicon Valley-based Firelight Foundation supporting community organizations in Africa and a part-time lecturer for the graduate program in nonprofit management at Columbia University in New York City.

Johnson-Cusack is a graduate of Columbia University, where she majored in political science and African studies. She holds a master’s degree in executive management from American University in Washington, D.C.

Irem Tumer has been named vice president for research at Oregon State University. Dr. Tumer has served as interim vice president for research since October 2018. Dr. Tumer joined Oregon State in 2006 as a professor in the School of Mechanical, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering. From 2013 to 2018, she led the College of Engineering’s Office of Research as associate dean.

Dr. Turner holds a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree, and a Ph.D., all in mechanical engineering and all from the University of Texas at Austin.

Aisha Oliver-Staley was appointed general counsel and university secretary at New York University, effective in January. She has been serving as chief ethics and compliance officer and deputy general counsel at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Oliver-Staley is a magna cum laude graduate of Morgan State University in Baltimore, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in business management. She received a juris doctorate from the Howard University School of Law.
