Three Women Who Have Been Named to Dean Positions at Universities

Tresmaine R. Grimes was appointed dean of the Dyson School of Arts and Sciences and the School of Education at Pace University in New York. She was a professor of psychology, vice president for academic affairs, and dean of faculty at Bloomfield College in New Jersey. Earlier, she taught at Iona College in New York and South Carolina State University.

Dr. Grimes is a graduate of Yale University, where she double-majored in Afro-American studies and psychology. She earned a master’s degree in psychology at The New School in New York City and later earned a master’s degree and a doctorate in developmental psychology from Teachers College at Columbia University.

Henrietta Williams Pichon, an associate professor of educational leadership and administration was appointed interim dean of the College of Education at New Mexico State University. She has been serving as associate dean.

Dr. Pichon holds a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in secondary English education from Louisiana Tech. She earned a Ph.D. in higher education administration at the University of New Orleans.

Evelyn L. Ashley has been named dean of students at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She will assume her new responsibilities on September 14. Most recently, she served as associate dean of students and director of student support, advocacy and accountability at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.

Dr. Ashley earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise sports science from Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota. She holds a master’s degree in adult learning and development from Cleveland State University and a Ph.D. in higher education administration from Bowling Green State University in Ohio.
