New Roles or Duties for Six Women Faculty Members at Colleges and Universities

Melanie Matchett Wood was appointed professor of mathematics at Harvard University. She was a Chancellor’s Professor at the University of California, Berkeley. Earlier, Dr. Wood taught at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Stanford University

At the age of 16 Wood became the first female to make the U.S. International Mathematical Olympiad Team. She graduated with the highest honors in mathematics at Duke Univerity in Durham, North Carolina, and went on to earn a Ph.D. in mathematics at Princeton University.

Jessica M. Pena, an assistant professor of medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City, was given the added duties as assistant director of admissions. She specializes in cardiovascular prevention and lipidology.

Dr. Pena is a graduate of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. She holds a master of public health degree from Harvard University and earned her medical degree at Weill Cornell Medical College.

Amanda Godley, a professor in the department of teaching, learning and leading in the School of Education at the University of Pittsburgh with secondary appointments in the department of linguistics and the Gender, Sexuality and Women’s Studies program, was given the added duties of vice provost for graduate studies at the university. She joined the faculty at the university in 2002.

Professor Godley is a graduate of the University of Chicago, where she majored in classics. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in language, literature, and culture from the University of California, Berkeley.

Terri Gaeddert, director of the School of Integrated Studies at Kansas State University Polytechnic Campus in Salina, has been promoted to associate dean of academics and student success. Dr. Gaeddert joined K-State Polytechnic in 2017 as director of academic operations after serving as associate dean and director of teacher education at Sterling College in Kansas.

A native of Ogallala, Nebraska, Dr. Gaeddert has a doctorate in educational leadership from Wichita State University, a master’s degree in teaching from Friends University in Wichita and a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and computer science from Chadron State College in Nebraska.

Elizabeth Langland, a professor of humanities, was appointed director of the Lincoln Center for Applied Ethics at Arizona State University. She joined the university in 2007 and has served as dean of the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences, interim dean of humanities at The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and, most recently, as director of the Institute for Humanities Research.

An authority on Victorian British literature, Dr. Langland earned a bachelor’s degree in English literature at Barnard College in New York City. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in English literature from the University of Chicago.

Joanne Connor Green, professor of political science at Texas Chrisitan University in Forth Worth, was given the added duties of chairs coordinator. In this role, she is responsible for organizing support and training for department chairs and program directors across campus.

Professor Green is a graduate of the University at Buffalo in New York. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Florida.
