Five Women Faculty Members Who Are Undertaking New Assignments in Academia

Andrea Burrows, an associate professor in the University of Wyoming’s School of Teacher Education, has been selected to serve as associate dean for undergraduate programs in the College of Education. Dr. Burrows will serve in this role for four years, beginning July 1. She will be promoted to full professor on August 1.

Dr. Burrows, who joined the university’s faculty in 2011, is a graduate of the University of Central Florida. She holds a master’s degree from Florida State University and a doctorate in curriculum and instruction from the University of Cincinnati.

Kristine Lang has been promoted to full professor of physics at Colorado College. She joined the faculty at the college in 2003 and has chaired the physics department since 2017

Dr. Lang is a summa cum laude graduate of Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., where she majored in international affairs. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in physics from the University of California, Berkeley.

Jodie Dionne-Odom, an assistant professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, has been named associate director of Global Health in the university’s Center for Women’s Reproductive Health.

Dr. Dionne-Odom is a graduate of the University of Rochester in New York. She earned her medical degree at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire.

Elizabeth Meyerand, professor of medical physics and biomedical engineering at the University of Wisconsin, will become the vice provost for faculty and staff affairs. Dr. Meyerand was been on the faculty at the university for 21 years and has served as chair of the department of biomedical engineering.

Professor Meyerland is a graduate of Yale University, where she majored in molecular biophysics and biochemistry. She earned a master’s degree in biomedical engineering at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Ph.D. in biophysics from the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.

Julianne Vernon, a research assistant professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering, at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, has been appointed interim associate dean for academic success in the university’s School of Engineering. She will continue serving as assistant dean for academic programs and manage the initiatives on first-year experience, study abroad, and international recruitment.

Dr. Vernon received a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the City College of New York. She holds a Ph.D. in environmental engineering from the University of Florida.
