University of Texas Scholar Named the Inaugural Poet Laureate of San Antonio

Carmen Tafolla has been named the inaugural poet laureate of the city of San Antonio, Texas. She will serve in the post for two years.
Dr. Tafolla, known as the “godmother of Chicana literature,” is writer-in-residence in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Texas at San Antonio.
San Antonio’s new poet laureate holds bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees from the University of Texas at Austin.
