A new report from the U.S. Department of Education looks at teachers in the nation’s public and private K-12 schools. Some of the data is broken down by gender
The report documents that in the 2017-18 academic year, 76.2 percent of all teachers in K-12 schools in the United States were women. Only 23.8 percent were men. Women make up 88.6 percent of the teachers in elementary schools. In middle schools, women make up 72 percent of all teachers. At the high school level, women were 60 percent of all teachers.
In the nation’s K-12 private schools, women make up 74 percent of all teachers. Women were 84.1 percent of all teachers in elementary private schools and 63.4 percent on all secondary private schools.
