Three Women Faculty Members at State Universities Who Are Taking on New Roles

Carey Ellis Laffoon was promoted to full professor of nursing at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville. She serves as a nurse practitioner and is affiliated with the Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Russelville.

Dr. Laffoon is a graduate of Arkansas Tech, where she majored in nursing. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Central Arkansas and a Ph.D. from Union University in Jackson, Tennessee.

Jami Fullerton, professor and holder of the Peggy Welch Chair in Strategic Communications at Oklahoma State University, was named the chief editor of the 75-year-old Journalism & Mass Communication Educator, a publication of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. She served as co-editor of the Journal of Advertising Education from 2011 to 2017,

Dr. Fullerton also serves as director of academic programs for the School of Global Studies and Partnerships at Oklahoma State University. She is a graduate of the Univesity of Oklahoma and holds a master’s degree in journalism and a Ph.D. in higher education administration from the University of North Texas.

Chrysanthi Leon, associate professor of sociology and criminal justice at the University of Delaware, has been named deputy director of the university’s honors program. As deputy director, Dr. Leon will work closely with faculty and staff to guide and strengthen academic programs within the honors program. She is the author of Sex Fiends, Perverts and Pedophiles: Understanding Sex Crime Policy in America (New York University Press, 2011).

Dr. Leon earned a juris doctorate and a Ph.D. at the University of California, Berkeley.
