The First Woman President of SUNY Fredonia

Virginia Schaefer Horvath has been selected as the next president of the State University of New York at Fredonia. The appointment is subject to approval by the SUNY Board of Trustees which is expected to vote on the issue on March 28. When she takes office on July 1, she will become the first woman president in the 186-year history of the university.

Dr. Horvath is currently vice president for academic affairs at the university, a post she has held since 2005. Previously, she served on the faculty and the administrative staff at Kent State University in Ohio.

Dr. Horvath is a graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in English from Kent State University.
