The board of trustees of Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts, has voted to promote seven faculty members to the position of associate professor. The faculty members were also awarded tenure. Four of the promotions and tenure awards were given to women.
Michelle Apotsos is an associate professor of art. She focuses on Islamic architecture in Africa, and she teaches widely on African art history and art-making. Dr. Apotsos is the author of Architecture, Islam, and Identity in West Africa: Lessons from Larabanga (Routledge Press, 2016). Before coming to Williams in 2015, she was a research associate at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African Art. Dr. Apostes is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She holds a master of fine arts degree from the University of Arkansas, a master’s degree from Tufts University in Massachusetts, and a Ph.D. from Stanford University.
Corinna Campbell was promoted to associate professor of music. An ethnomusicologist, Dr. Campbell’s research focuses on maroon communities in Suriname. Prior to joining the faculty at Williams, she taught at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston College, and Harvard University. Dr. Campbell is a graduate of Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, where she majored in music. She holds a master’s degree from Bowling Green State University in Ohio and a Ph.D. from Harvard University.
Susan Godlonton was named an associate professor of economics. Her work explores how preventative health measures in Africa may reduce rates of HIV transmission and interventions that are effective in promoting transition to work and increasing agricultural productivity. Before joining the faculty at Williams, she previously worked at the International Food Policy Research Institute in Washington, D.C. Dr. Godlonton holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Cape Town in South Africa. She earned a Ph.D. at the University of Michigan.
Pamela Harris was promoted to associate professor of mathematics. She is the recipient of the 2019 Henry L. Alder Award from the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) and the 2019 Early Career Mentor Award from the Council on Undergraduate Research. Before joining the faculty at Williams in 2016, she was a Davies Research Fellow at the United States Military Academy. Dr. Harris is a graduate of Marquette University in Milwaukee, where she majored in mathematics. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Dr. Kahanov became the twentieth president of Notre Dame de Namur University in California on July 1. She previously served as provost at Alvernia University in Pennsylvania, Stockton University in New Jersey, and SUNY Oneonta.
Most recently, Dr. Sanders served as vice president of experiential product management and interim vice president of product and technology at Western Governors University.
Dr. Allmendinger began her tenure as the sixth president of Delta College in Michigan on June 29. Prior to her new role, she spent three years as vice president of student affairs at Southeastern Community College in Iowa.
Susan Rogers was named president of Central Maine College, effective August 10. Hara D. Charlier is the new president of Berkshire Community College in Pittsfield, Massachusetts.
