Louisiana State’s Susanne Brenner Named President of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics

Susanne C. Brenner, Boyd Professor of the Louisiana State University System, was recently named president of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM), a world-wide organization devoted to research in areas such as life sciences, finance, the development of new materials, imaging science, and control and systems theory.

Professor Brenner has been a member of the society since her days in graduate school and has been a fellow of SIAM since 2010. Dr. Brenner has served as an associate editor of the SIAM Journal on Numerical Analysis for many years, and as the society’s vice president for publications.

At Louisiana State University, Professor Brenner holds a joint appointment with the department of mathematics and Center for Computation and Technology (CCT). At CCT she is also the associate director for academic affairs.

Before joining the faculty at Louisiana State University in 2006, Dr. Brenner taught at the University of South Carolina for 13 years. She began her academic career as an assistant professor of mathematics at Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York.

Professor Brenner is a graduate of West Chester University in Pennsylvania, where she doubled majored in mathematics and German. She holds master’s degrees from Stony Brook University in New York and the University of Tubingen in Germany. She earned a master’s degree in applied mathematics and a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Michigan.
