Three Women Appointed to Dean Positions at Universities

Marty Brock has been named dean of the College of Business and Professional Studies at Mississippi University for Women. She has been serving as interim dean since August 2018. In this role, Dr. Brock will supervise three departments, including the department of business, the Culinary Arts Institute, and the legal studies department. Prior to being named interim dean, Dr. Brock served as chair of the business department since 2012 and as professor of management information systems since 2017. She joined the faculty at the university in 2004 as an instructor.

Professor Brock holds a bachelor’s degree in history, a master’s degree in business information systems, and a Ph.D. in instructional systems and workforce development, all from Mississippi State University.

On June 1, 2020, Hazel Sive will become the new dean of the College of Science at Northeastern University in Boston. She is a professor of biology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Professor Sive served as chair of the biology department undergraduate program at MIT from 2003 to 2006. She also served as the first associate dean of science at MIT between the years of 2006 and 2013.

A native of South Africa, Professor Sive is a graduate of the University of Witwatersrand, where she majored in chemistry and zoology. She holds a Ph.D. from Rockefeller University in New York.

Jill Fort will be the new dean of the School of Business at Newman University in Wichita, Kansas. She will begin her new duties in January. Dr. Fort began her career at Newman in 2005 as an assistant professor. She was promoted to associate professor in 2012 and full professor in 2018. She has also served as division chair of the social sciences and humanities.

Professor Fort holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in criminal justice from Wichita State University. She earned a Ph.D. in criminal justice at the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
